أَفَحُكمَ الجاهِلِيَّةِ يَبغونَ ۚ وَمَن أَحسَنُ مِنَ اللَّهِ حُكمًا لِقَومٍ يوقِنونَ

Do they desire the ruling of the era of Ignorance? But who is better than God in judgment for a people who have certainty?

يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا لا تَتَّخِذُوا اليَهودَ وَالنَّصارىٰ أَولِياءَ ۘ بَعضُهُم أَولِياءُ بَعضٍ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِنكُم فَإِنَّهُ مِنهُم ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لا يَهدِي القَومَ الظّالِمينَ

O you who have believed, don’t take the Jews and the Christians as allies; some of them are allies of one another. Whoever among you allies with them, then he becomes one of them. God doesn’t guide the wrongdoers.

فَتَرَى الَّذينَ في قُلوبِهِم مَرَضٌ يُسارِعونَ فيهِم يَقولونَ نَخشىٰ أَن تُصيبَنا دائِرَةٌ ۚ فَعَسَى اللَّهُ أَن يَأتِيَ بِالفَتحِ أَو أَمرٍ مِن عِندِهِ فَيُصبِحوا عَلىٰ ما أَسَرّوا في أَنفُسِهِم نادِمينَ

You will see those with diseased hearts rushing amongst them, saying, “We fear that a misfortune might strike us.”But it may be that God will bring about victory or a decision from His command, and they will become regretful for what they’ve been concealing.

وَيَقولُ الَّذينَ آمَنوا أَهـٰؤُلاءِ الَّذينَ أَقسَموا بِاللَّهِ جَهدَ أَيمانِهِم ۙ إِنَّهُم لَمَعَكُم ۚ حَبِطَت أَعمالُهُم فَأَصبَحوا خاسِرينَ

Then the believers will say, “Are these the ones who swore by God, with their strongest oaths, that they are with you?” Their deeds have become in vain, and they’ve become losers.

يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا مَن يَرتَدَّ مِنكُم عَن دينِهِ فَسَوفَ يَأتِي اللَّهُ بِقَومٍ يُحِبُّهُم وَيُحِبّونَهُ أَذِلَّةٍ عَلَى المُؤمِنينَ أَعِزَّةٍ عَلَى الكافِرينَ يُجاهِدونَ في سَبيلِ اللَّهِ وَلا يَخافونَ لَومَةَ لائِمٍ ۚ ذٰلِكَ فَضلُ اللَّهِ يُؤتيهِ مَن يَشاءُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ واسِعٌ عَليمٌ

O you who believe, whoever of you renounces his faith, God will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble towards the believers, stern towards the unbelievers, striving in the path of God, and not fearing the blame of any critic. That is the bounty from God, He bestows it on whom He wills. God is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

وَمَن يَتَوَلَّ اللَّهَ وَرَسولَهُ وَالَّذينَ آمَنوا فَإِنَّ حِزبَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الغالِبونَ

Whoever allies with God, His Messenger, and the believers—indeed, the party of God will be the victorious.

يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا لا تَتَّخِذُوا الَّذينَ اتَّخَذوا دينَكُم هُزُوًا وَلَعِبًا مِنَ الَّذينَ أوتُوا الكِتابَ مِن قَبلِكُم وَالكُفّارَ أَولِياءَ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِن كُنتُم مُؤمِنينَ

O you who believe, don’t take as allies those who ridicule your religion and treat it as a game, be they from those who received the Scripture before you, or from the unbelievers. Be mindful of God, if you are believers.

وَإِذا نادَيتُم إِلَى الصَّلاةِ اتَّخَذوها هُزُوًا وَلَعِبًا ۚ ذٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُم قَومٌ لا يَعقِلونَ

When you call for prayer, they treat it as a jest and a diversion. This is because they are people who lack understanding.

قُل يا أَهلَ الكِتابِ هَل تَنقِمونَ مِنّا إِلّا أَن آمَنّا بِاللَّهِ وَما أُنزِلَ إِلَينا وَما أُنزِلَ مِن قَبلُ وَأَنَّ أَكثَرَكُم فاسِقونَ

Say, “O People of the Scripture, do you resent us merely because we believe in God, in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed before, and because many among you are sinful?”

قُل هَل أُنَبِّئُكُم بِشَرٍّ مِن ذٰلِكَ مَثوبَةً عِندَ اللَّهِ ۚ مَن لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ وَغَضِبَ عَلَيهِ وَجَعَلَ مِنهُمُ القِرَدَةَ وَالخَنازيرَ وَعَبَدَ الطّاغوتَ ۚ أُولـٰئِكَ شَرٌّ مَكانًا وَأَضَلُّ عَن سَواءِ السَّبيلِ

Say, “Shall I inform you of something worse than that as a penalty from God? Those whom God has cursed, upon whom His wrath has descended, some of whom He transformed into apes and pigs, and those who worship false gods. These are in a worse position and further astray from the straight path.”
