بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ تَبارَكَ الَّذي بِيَدِهِ المُلكُ وَهُوَ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَيءٍ قَديرٌ

Blessed is He in whose hand lies the dominion, and He is over all things competent.

الَّذي خَلَقَ المَوتَ وَالحَياةَ لِيَبلُوَكُم أَيُّكُم أَحسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ العَزيزُ الغَفورُ

He who created life and death to test which of you is best in conduct. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.

الَّذي خَلَقَ سَبعَ سَماواتٍ طِباقًا ۖ ما تَرىٰ في خَلقِ الرَّحمـٰنِ مِن تَفاوُتٍ ۖ فَارجِعِ البَصَرَ هَل تَرىٰ مِن فُطورٍ

He who created seven heavens in layers. You will see no discrepancy in the creation of the Merciful. Look again: do you see any flaws?

ثُمَّ ارجِعِ البَصَرَ كَرَّتَينِ يَنقَلِب إِلَيكَ البَصَرُ خاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسيرٌ

Look again, and yet again, and your sight will return to you dazzled and fatigued.

وَلَقَد زَيَّنَّا السَّماءَ الدُّنيا بِمَصابيحَ وَجَعَلناها رُجومًا لِلشَّياطينِ ۖ وَأَعتَدنا لَهُم عَذابَ السَّعيرِ

We adorned the lowest heaven with lamps, and We made them projectiles to drive away the devils. We prepared for them the torment of the Blaze.

وَلِلَّذينَ كَفَروا بِرَبِّهِم عَذابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئسَ المَصيرُ

For those who deny their Lord, the punishment of Hell awaits—a terrible destination.

إِذا أُلقوا فيها سَمِعوا لَها شَهيقًا وَهِيَ تَفورُ

When they are thrown into it, they will hear it gasping as it boils over.

تَكادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الغَيظِ ۖ كُلَّما أُلقِيَ فيها فَوجٌ سَأَلَهُم خَزَنَتُها أَلَم يَأتِكُم نَذيرٌ

It almost bursts with rage. Every time a batch is hurled into it, its keepers will ask them, “Did no Warner come to you?”

قالوا بَلىٰ قَد جاءَنا نَذيرٌ فَكَذَّبنا وَقُلنا ما نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ مِن شَيءٍ إِن أَنتُم إِلّا في ضَلالٍ كَبيرٍ

They will answer, “Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied and said, ‘God didn’t reveal anything; you are greatly mistaken.’”

وَقالوا لَو كُنّا نَسمَعُ أَو نَعقِلُ ما كُنّا في أَصحابِ السَّعيرِ

And they will say, “If only we had listened or used reason, we wouldn’t be among the inhabitants of the Fiery Blaze.”

فَاعتَرَفوا بِذَنبِهِم فَسُحقًا لِأَصحابِ السَّعيرِ

They confessed their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the Blaze.

إِنَّ الَّذينَ يَخشَونَ رَبَّهُم بِالغَيبِ لَهُم مَغفِرَةٌ وَأَجرٌ كَبيرٌ

For those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is forgiveness and a grand reward.

وَأَسِرّوا قَولَكُم أَوِ اجهَروا بِهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَليمٌ بِذاتِ الصُّدورِ

Whether you conceal your words or declare them, He knows the secrets of the hearts.

أَلا يَعلَمُ مَن خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطيفُ الخَبيرُ

Wouldn’t He know, He who created? He is the Kind, the Expert.

هُوَ الَّذي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأَرضَ ذَلولًا فَامشوا في مَناكِبِها وَكُلوا مِن رِزقِهِ ۖ وَإِلَيهِ النُّشورُ

It is He who made the earth manageable for you. So traverse its tracks and eat from His provision. To Him is the resurgence.

أَأَمِنتُم مَن فِي السَّماءِ أَن يَخسِفَ بِكُمُ الأَرضَ فَإِذا هِيَ تَمورُ

Are you certain that the One in the heavens won’t cause the earth to swallow you as it shakes?

أَم أَمِنتُم مَن فِي السَّماءِ أَن يُرسِلَ عَلَيكُم حاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعلَمونَ كَيفَ نَذيرِ

Are you sure that the One in the heavens won’t send upon you a violent wind? Then you will know how My warning was.

وَلَقَد كَذَّبَ الَّذينَ مِن قَبلِهِم فَكَيفَ كانَ نَكيرِ

Those before them also denied. So, how was My condemnation?

أَوَلَم يَرَوا إِلَى الطَّيرِ فَوقَهُم صافّاتٍ وَيَقبِضنَ ۚ ما يُمسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا الرَّحمـٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيءٍ بَصيرٌ

Don’t they see the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Merciful. He is watchful over all things.

أَمَّن هـٰذَا الَّذي هُوَ جُندٌ لَكُم يَنصُرُكُم مِن دونِ الرَّحمـٰنِ ۚ إِنِ الكافِرونَ إِلّا في غُرورٍ

Who could be an army to aid you, other than the Most Merciful? The unbelievers are in nothing but delusion.

أَمَّن هـٰذَا الَّذي يَرزُقُكُم إِن أَمسَكَ رِزقَهُ ۚ بَل لَجّوا في عُتُوٍّ وَنُفورٍ

Who will sustain you if He withholds His provision? Yet, they persist in defiance and aversion.

أَفَمَن يَمشي مُكِبًّا عَلىٰ وَجهِهِ أَهدىٰ أَمَّن يَمشي سَوِيًّا عَلىٰ صِراطٍ مُستَقيمٍ

Who is better guided: the one who walks face down, or the one who walks upright on a straight path?

قُل هُوَ الَّذي أَنشَأَكُم وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمعَ وَالأَبصارَ وَالأَفئِدَةَ ۖ قَليلًا ما تَشكُرونَ

Say, “It is He who created you and endowed you with hearing, sight, and hearts. Yet, little do you give thanks.”

قُل هُوَ الَّذي ذَرَأَكُم فِي الأَرضِ وَإِلَيهِ تُحشَرونَ

Say, “It is He who multiplied you throughout the earth, and to Him, you will be gathered.”

وَيَقولونَ مَتىٰ هـٰذَا الوَعدُ إِن كُنتُم صادِقينَ

They ask, “When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?”

قُل إِنَّمَا العِلمُ عِندَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّما أَنا نَذيرٌ مُبينٌ

Respond, “Its knowledge lies only with God, and I am but a clear warner.”

فَلَمّا رَأَوهُ زُلفَةً سيئَت وُجوهُ الَّذينَ كَفَروا وَقيلَ هـٰذَا الَّذي كُنتُم بِهِ تَدَّعونَ

When they see it approaching, the faces of those who disbelieved will be gloomy, and it will be said, “This is what you were calling for.”

قُل أَرَأَيتُم إِن أَهلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَن مَعِيَ أَو رَحِمَنا فَمَن يُجيرُ الكافِرينَ مِن عَذابٍ أَليمٍ

Say, “Consider this: whether God destroys me and those with me, or He showers us with His mercy, who can protect the unbelievers from a severe punishment?”

قُل هُوَ الرَّحمـٰنُ آمَنّا بِهِ وَعَلَيهِ تَوَكَّلنا ۖ فَسَتَعلَمونَ مَن هُوَ في ضَلالٍ مُبينٍ

Say, “He is the Most Merciful. We have believed in Him, and upon Him, we rely. Soon, you will realize who is in glaring error.”

قُل أَرَأَيتُم إِن أَصبَحَ ماؤُكُم غَورًا فَمَن يَأتيكُم بِماءٍ مَعينٍ

Say, “Consider this: if your water were to sink, who could supply you with fresh, flowing water?”
