قالَ نَعَم وَإِنَّكُم لَمِنَ المُقَرَّبينَ
He answered, “Yes, and you will be among the ones closest to me.”
قالوا يا موسىٰ إِمّا أَن تُلقِيَ وَإِمّا أَن نَكونَ نَحنُ المُلقينَ
They asked, “O Moses, should you throw first, or should we?”
قالَ أَلقوا ۖ فَلَمّا أَلقَوا سَحَروا أَعيُنَ النّاسِ وَاستَرهَبوهُم وَجاءوا بِسِحرٍ عَظيمٍ
He replied, “You throw.” And when they performed their enchantment, they cast a spell upon the people’s eyes, struck fear in their hearts, and exhibited a magnificent spectacle of sorcery.
وَأَوحَينا إِلىٰ موسىٰ أَن أَلقِ عَصاكَ ۖ فَإِذا هِيَ تَلقَفُ ما يَأفِكونَ
Then, We revealed to Moses, “Throw down your staff.” And suddenly, it swallowed the illusions they had fabricated.
فَوَقَعَ الحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ ما كانوا يَعمَلونَ
So, the truth was established, and what they were doing became null.
فَغُلِبوا هُنالِكَ وَانقَلَبوا صاغِرينَ
They were defeated there and then, and were utterly humiliated.
وَأُلقِيَ السَّحَرَةُ ساجِدينَ
The magicians fell prostrate.
قالوا آمَنّا بِرَبِّ العالَمينَ
They proclaimed, “We have believed in the Lord of the worlds.
رَبِّ موسىٰ وَهارونَ
The Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
قالَ فِرعَونُ آمَنتُم بِهِ قَبلَ أَن آذَنَ لَكُم ۖ إِنَّ هـٰذا لَمَكرٌ مَكَرتُموهُ فِي المَدينَةِ لِتُخرِجوا مِنها أَهلَها ۖ فَسَوفَ تَعلَمونَ
Pharaoh said, “You dare to believe in him before I give you permission? You hatched this plot in the city to expel its inhabitants. But you will soon know.”
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيدِيَكُم وَأَرجُلَكُم مِن خِلافٍ ثُمَّ لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُم أَجمَعينَ
“I will sever your hands and feet on opposite sides; then I will crucify you all.”
