عَلَّمَ الإِنسانَ ما لَم يَعلَم

Taught man what he knew not.

كَلّا إِنَّ الإِنسانَ لَيَطغىٰ

Indeed, man transgresses.

أَن رَآهُ استَغنىٰ

When he sees himself as self-sufficient.

إِنَّ إِلىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجعىٰ

Yet, to your Lord is the return.

أَرَأَيتَ الَّذي يَنهىٰ

Did you see the one who forbids?

أَرَأَيتَ إِن كانَ عَلَى الهُدىٰ

Did you see if he is upon guidance?

أَو أَمَرَ بِالتَّقوىٰ

Or advocates righteousness?

أَرَأَيتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّىٰ

Didn’t you see how he denies and turns away?

أَلَم يَعلَم بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرىٰ

Doesn’t he know that God sees?

كَلّا لَئِن لَم يَنتَهِ لَنَسفَعًا بِالنّاصِيَةِ

No indeed! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock.
