إِلىٰ فِرعَونَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَاستَكبَروا وَكانوا قَومًا عالينَ
To Pharaoh and his aristocracy, they reacted with arrogance and superiority.
فَقالوا أَنُؤمِنُ لِبَشَرَينِ مِثلِنا وَقَومُهُما لَنا عابِدونَ
They said, “Are we to believe in two men like us, while their people serve us as slaves?”
فَكَذَّبوهُما فَكانوا مِنَ المُهلَكينَ
Thus, they rejected them both and were consequently doomed to destruction.
وَلَقَد آتَينا موسَى الكِتابَ لَعَلَّهُم يَهتَدونَ
We gave Moses the Scripture, so they may be guided.
وَجَعَلنَا ابنَ مَريَمَ وَأُمَّهُ آيَةً وَآوَيناهُما إِلىٰ رَبوَةٍ ذاتِ قَرارٍ وَمَعينٍ
And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and We sheltered them on a plateau with security and flowing springs.
يا أَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلوا مِنَ الطَّيِّباتِ وَاعمَلوا صالِحًا ۖ إِنّي بِما تَعمَلونَ عَليمٌ
O Messengers, eat from the pure and good foods, and do good deeds. I am fully aware of everything you do.
وَإِنَّ هـٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُم أُمَّةً واحِدَةً وَأَنا رَبُّكُم فَاتَّقونِ
This community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord, so fear Me.
فَتَقَطَّعوا أَمرَهُم بَينَهُم زُبُرًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزبٍ بِما لَدَيهِم فَرِحونَ
Yet they fragmented into denominations, each rejoicing in its doctrines.
فَذَرهُم في غَمرَتِهِم حَتّىٰ حينٍ
So leave them in their bewilderment until a time.
أَيَحسَبونَ أَنَّما نُمِدُّهُم بِهِ مِن مالٍ وَبَنينَ
Do they assume that by granting them wealth and children.
نُسارِعُ لَهُم فِي الخَيراتِ ۚ بَل لا يَشعُرونَ
We are racing to give them good things? They don’t perceive.
