وَالَّذينَ يُؤتونَ ما آتَوا وَقُلوبُهُم وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُم إِلىٰ رَبِّهِم راجِعونَ

And those who give what they give with hearts trembling, because they will return to their Lord.

أُولـٰئِكَ يُسارِعونَ فِي الخَيراتِ وَهُم لَها سابِقونَ

These are the ones who compete in goodness and are foremost in doing so.

وَلا نُكَلِّفُ نَفسًا إِلّا وُسعَها ۖ وَلَدَينا كِتابٌ يَنطِقُ بِالحَقِّ ۚ وَهُم لا يُظلَمونَ

We don’t burden a soul beyond its capacity. With Us is a record that speaks with truth, and they won’t be wronged.

بَل قُلوبُهُم في غَمرَةٍ مِن هـٰذا وَلَهُم أَعمالٌ مِن دونِ ذٰلِكَ هُم لَها عامِلونَ

But rather, their hearts are in confusion over this, and they engage in deeds that contradict it.

حَتّىٰ إِذا أَخَذنا مُترَفيهِم بِالعَذابِ إِذا هُم يَجأَرونَ

Until, when We seize their elite with torment, they begin to groan.

قَد كانَت آياتي تُتلىٰ عَلَيكُم فَكُنتُم عَلىٰ أَعقابِكُم تَنكِصونَ

My verses were conveyed to you, yet you backed away from them.

مُستَكبِرينَ بِهِ سامِرًا تَهجُرونَ

You reacted arrogantly towards them, debated against them baselessly, and outright rejected them.

أَفَلَم يَدَّبَّرُوا القَولَ أَم جاءَهُم ما لَم يَأتِ آباءَهُمُ الأَوَّلينَ

Don’t they ponder over the Word? Or did news come to them that didn’t come to their ancestors?

أَم لَم يَعرِفوا رَسولَهُم فَهُم لَهُ مُنكِرونَ

Or did they fail to recognize their Messenger, and thus, they deny him?

أَم يَقولونَ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ ۚ بَل جاءَهُم بِالحَقِّ وَأَكثَرُهُم لِلحَقِّ كارِهونَ

Or do they say, “He is possessed”? In fact, he brought them the truth, and most of them hate the truth.
