وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُم وَما تَعمَلونَ

While it is God who created you and all that you make?”

قالُوا ابنوا لَهُ بُنيانًا فَأَلقوهُ فِي الجَحيمِ

They responded, “Build a furnace for him, and throw him into the flames.”

فَأَرادوا بِهِ كَيدًا فَجَعَلناهُمُ الأَسفَلينَ

So they hatched a scheme against him, but We made them the inferiors.

وَقالَ إِنّي ذاهِبٌ إِلىٰ رَبّي سَيَهدينِ

He said, “I will be departing to my Lord; He will guide me.”

رَبِّ هَب لي مِنَ الصّالِحينَ

“My Lord, grant me righteous offspring.”

فَلَمّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعيَ قالَ يا بُنَيَّ إِنّي أَرىٰ فِي المَنامِ أَنّي أَذبَحُكَ فَانظُر ماذا تَرىٰ ۚ قالَ يا أَبَتِ افعَل ما تُؤمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُني إِن شاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصّابِرينَ

When he was old enough to work with him, he said, “O my son, I saw in a dream that I’m sacrificing you, so see what you think?” He replied, “O my father, do as you’re commanded; you will find me, if God wills, one of the patient.”

فَلَمّا أَسلَما وَتَلَّهُ لِلجَبينِ

And when they had submitted, he put him down upon his forehead.

وَنادَيناهُ أَن يا إِبراهيمُ

But We called out to him, “O Abraham!

قَد صَدَّقتَ الرُّؤيا ۚ إِنّا كَذٰلِكَ نَجزِي المُحسِنينَ

You have fulfilled the vision.” Thus, do We reward those who do right.

إِنَّ هـٰذا لَهُوَ البَلاءُ المُبينُ

That was a significant test.
