إِذ نَجَّيناهُ وَأَهلَهُ أَجمَعينَ

We saved him and his entire family.

إِلّا عَجوزًا فِي الغابِرينَ

Except an elderly woman who was among those left behind.

ثُمَّ دَمَّرنَا الآخَرينَ

Then We destroyed the rest.

وَإِنَّكُم لَتَمُرّونَ عَلَيهِم مُصبِحينَ

You pass by them in the morning.

وَبِاللَّيلِ ۗ أَفَلا تَعقِلونَ

And at night. Will you not then reflect?

إِذ أَبَقَ إِلَى الفُلكِ المَشحونِ

When he fled onto the laden ship.

فَساهَمَ فَكانَ مِنَ المُدحَضينَ

He gambled and lost.

فَالتَقَمَهُ الحوتُ وَهُوَ مُليمٌ

A whale swallowed him, and he was to blame.

فَلَولا أَنَّهُ كانَ مِنَ المُسَبِّحينَ

Had he not been of those who praised.

لَلَبِثَ في بَطنِهِ إِلىٰ يَومِ يُبعَثونَ

He would’ve remained in its belly until the Day they’re raised.
