قَد قالَهَا الَّذينَ مِن قَبلِهِم فَما أَغنىٰ عَنهُم ما كانوا يَكسِبونَ
Those who preceded them said the same, but their ill-gotten gains availed them not.
فَأَصابَهُم سَيِّئَاتُ ما كَسَبوا ۚ وَالَّذينَ ظَلَموا مِن هـٰؤُلاءِ سَيُصيبُهُم سَيِّئَاتُ ما كَسَبوا وَما هُم بِمُعجِزينَ
The repercussions of their evil deeds overwhelmed them, and the wrongdoers of this era will also face the consequences of their actions, from which they can’t escape.
أَوَلَم يَعلَموا أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَبسُطُ الرِّزقَ لِمَن يَشاءُ وَيَقدِرُ ۚ إِنَّ في ذٰلِكَ لَآياتٍ لِقَومٍ يُؤمِنونَ
Don’t they realize that God expands the provision for whom He wills and restricts it as well? In this are signs for people of faith.
قُل يا عِبادِيَ الَّذينَ أَسرَفوا عَلىٰ أَنفُسِهِم لا تَقنَطوا مِن رَحمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغفِرُ الذُّنوبَ جَميعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الغَفورُ الرَّحيمُ
Say, “O my servants who have transgressed against yourselves: Don’t despair of God’s mercy, God forgives all sins. It is He who is the Merciful, the Forgiving.”
وَأَنيبوا إِلىٰ رَبِّكُم وَأَسلِموا لَهُ مِن قَبلِ أَن يَأتِيَكُمُ العَذابُ ثُمَّ لا تُنصَرونَ
Return with wholehearted repentance to your Lord, and submit yourselves completely to Him, before the suffering befalls you, after which you won’t be helped.
وَاتَّبِعوا أَحسَنَ ما أُنزِلَ إِلَيكُم مِن رَبِّكُم مِن قَبلِ أَن يَأتِيَكُمُ العَذابُ بَغتَةً وَأَنتُم لا تَشعُرونَ
Adhere to the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord, before the punishment engulfs you unexpectedly.
أَن تَقولَ نَفسٌ يا حَسرَتىٰ عَلىٰ ما فَرَّطتُ في جَنبِ اللَّهِ وَإِن كُنتُ لَمِنَ السّاخِرينَ
Lest a soul should lament, “Alas, I have neglected my duty towards God and was among the mockers.”
أَو تَقولَ لَو أَنَّ اللَّهَ هَداني لَكُنتُ مِنَ المُتَّقينَ
Or it may say, “Had God guided me, I would’ve been among the righteous.”
أَو تَقولَ حينَ تَرَى العَذابَ لَو أَنَّ لي كَرَّةً فَأَكونَ مِنَ المُحسِنينَ
Or, it may say when it sees the penalty: “If only I had another chance, I would be among those who do good.”
بَلىٰ قَد جاءَتكَ آياتي فَكَذَّبتَ بِها وَاستَكبَرتَ وَكُنتَ مِنَ الكافِرينَ
But, indeed, My signs came to you, but you denied them, were arrogant, and became a disbeliever.
وَيَومَ القِيامَةِ تَرَى الَّذينَ كَذَبوا عَلَى اللَّهِ وُجوهُهُم مُسوَدَّةٌ ۚ أَلَيسَ في جَهَنَّمَ مَثوًى لِلمُتَكَبِّرينَ
On the Day of Resurrection, you will see those who told lies about God, their faces blackened. Is not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?
