ثُمَّ في سِلسِلَةٍ ذَرعُها سَبعونَ ذِراعًا فَاسلُكوهُ
Then fasten him with a chain seventy cubits long.
إِنَّهُ كانَ لا يُؤمِنُ بِاللَّهِ العَظيمِ
He used not to believe in God the Magnificent.
وَلا يَحُضُّ عَلىٰ طَعامِ المِسكينِ
Nor did he urge the feeding of the poor.
فَلَيسَ لَهُ اليَومَ هاهُنا حَميمٌ
So he has no friend here today.
وَلا طَعامٌ إِلّا مِن غِسلينٍ
And no food except from the wash of wounds.
فَلا أُقسِمُ بِما تُبصِرونَ
So I swear by what you see.
وَما لا تُبصِرونَ
And by what you don’t see.
إِنَّهُ لَقَولُ رَسولٍ كَريمٍ
It is the speech of a respectable Messenger.
وَما هُوَ بِقَولِ شاعِرٍ ۚ قَليلًا ما تُؤمِنونَ
And it is not the speech of a poet—little do you believe.
وَلا بِقَولِ كاهِنٍ ۚ قَليلًا ما تَذَكَّرونَ
Nor the word of a soothsayer—little do you remember.
