فَلا صَدَّقَ وَلا صَلّىٰ

He neither believed nor prayed.

وَلـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّىٰ

Instead, he denied and turned away.

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلىٰ أَهلِهِ يَتَمَطّىٰ

Then he returned to his family, full of self-importance.

أَولىٰ لَكَ فَأَولىٰ

Woe to you, then woe!

ثُمَّ أَولىٰ لَكَ فَأَولىٰ

Then, woe to you, and woe!

أَلَم يَكُ نُطفَةً مِن مَنِيٍّ يُمنىٰ

Wasn’t he a sperm-drop from emitted semen?

ثُمَّ كانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوّىٰ

Then he became a clinging clot, and He created and formed?

فَجَعَلَ مِنهُ الزَّوجَينِ الذَّكَرَ وَالأُنثىٰ

And made from it the two sexes, male and female.

أَلَيسَ ذٰلِكَ بِقادِرٍ عَلىٰ أَن يُحيِيَ المَوتىٰ

Isn’t He capable of giving life to the dead?
