عَلَى الأَرائِكِ يَنظُرونَ

On adorned couches, observing.

تَعرِفُ في وُجوهِهِم نَضرَةَ النَّعيمِ

You will recognize on their faces the radiance of bliss.

يُسقَونَ مِن رَحيقٍ مَختومٍ

They will be given to drink from a pure, sealed wine.

خِتامُهُ مِسكٌ ۚ وَفي ذٰلِكَ فَليَتَنافَسِ المُتَنافِسونَ

The seal of it is musk. For this, let the competitors compete.

وَمِزاجُهُ مِن تَسنيمٍ

Its mixture is from Tasneem.

إِنَّ الَّذينَ أَجرَموا كانوا مِنَ الَّذينَ آمَنوا يَضحَكونَ

Those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.

وَإِذا مَرّوا بِهِم يَتَغامَزونَ

And when they passed by them, they would wink at each other.

وَإِذَا انقَلَبوا إِلىٰ أَهلِهِمُ انقَلَبوا فَكِهينَ

Upon returning to their families, they would return jubilantly.

وَإِذا رَأَوهُم قالوا إِنَّ هـٰؤُلاءِ لَضالّونَ

Upon seeing them, they would say, “These have really gone astray.”

وَما أُرسِلوا عَلَيهِم حافِظينَ

But they were not sent as keepers over them.
