بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ إِذَا السَّماءُ انشَقَّت

When the sky fractures.

وَأَذِنَت لِرَبِّها وَحُقَّت

And obeys its Lord, as it must.

وَإِذَا الأَرضُ مُدَّت

And when the earth is expanded.

وَأَلقَت ما فيها وَتَخَلَّت

And casts out whatever in it, and empties itself.

وَأَذِنَت لِرَبِّها وَحُقَّت

And it obeys its Lord, as it should.

يا أَيُّهَا الإِنسانُ إِنَّكَ كادِحٌ إِلىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدحًا فَمُلاقيهِ

O man, you are laboring towards your Lord, and you will surely encounter Him.

فَأَمّا مَن أوتِيَ كِتابَهُ بِيَمينِهِ

As for the one who is given his record in his right hand.

فَسَوفَ يُحاسَبُ حِسابًا يَسيرًا

He will face an easy accounting.

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلىٰ أَهلِهِ مَسرورًا

And will return to his family happily.

وَأَمّا مَن أوتِيَ كِتابَهُ وَراءَ ظَهرِهِ

But as for the one who is given his record behind his back.

فَسَوفَ يَدعو ثُبورًا

He will call for annihilation.

وَيَصلىٰ سَعيرًا

And will be thrust into a roaring inferno.

إِنَّهُ كانَ في أَهلِهِ مَسرورًا

He was once joyful among his family.

إِنَّهُ ظَنَّ أَن لَن يَحورَ

He thought he would never return.

بَلىٰ إِنَّ رَبَّهُ كانَ بِهِ بَصيرًا

Yet, his Lord was watchful over him.

فَلا أُقسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِ

So, I swear by the twilight’s glow.

وَاللَّيلِ وَما وَسَقَ

And by the night, and all it encloses.

وَالقَمَرِ إِذَا اتَّسَقَ

And by the moon, when it becomes full.

لَتَركَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ

You will ascend from stage to stage.

فَما لَهُم لا يُؤمِنونَ

So why, then, do they not believe?

وَإِذا قُرِئَ عَلَيهِمُ القُرآنُ لا يَسجُدونَ ۩

And when the Quran is read to them, they don’t prostrate?

بَلِ الَّذينَ كَفَروا يُكَذِّبونَ

But those who disbelieve are in denial.

وَاللَّهُ أَعلَمُ بِما يوعونَ

And God certainly knows what they are hiding.

فَبَشِّرهُم بِعَذابٍ أَليمٍ

So, give them the news of a severe punishment.

إِلَّا الَّذينَ آمَنوا وَعَمِلُوا الصّالِحاتِ لَهُم أَجرٌ غَيرُ مَمنونٍ

But for those who believe and do righteous deeds, theirs is an unending reward.
