بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ هَل أَتاكَ حَديثُ الغاشِيَةِ

Did you hear of the Overwhelming Event?

وُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ خاشِعَةٌ

Some faces on that day will be humbled.

عامِلَةٌ ناصِبَةٌ

Laboring and exhausted.

تَصلىٰ نارًا حامِيَةً

Exposed to a fiercely blazing fire.

تُسقىٰ مِن عَينٍ آنِيَةٍ

Made to drink from a flaming spring.

لَيسَ لَهُم طَعامٌ إِلّا مِن ضَريعٍ

Their only food will be bitter thorns.

لا يُسمِنُ وَلا يُغني مِن جوعٍ

Which neither nourishes nor satisfies hunger.

وُجوهٌ يَومَئِذٍ ناعِمَةٌ

Other faces on that day will be joyful.

لِسَعيِها راضِيَةٌ

Satisfied with their endeavors.

في جَنَّةٍ عالِيَةٍ

In a high and lofty paradise.

لا تَسمَعُ فيها لاغِيَةً

In it, you will hear no nonsense.

فيها عَينٌ جارِيَةٌ

Within it, a spring will flow.

فيها سُرُرٌ مَرفوعَةٌ

Therein, are raised couches.

وَأَكوابٌ مَوضوعَةٌ

With cups set at hand.

وَنَمارِقُ مَصفوفَةٌ

And cushions lined up.

وَزَرابِيُّ مَبثوثَةٌ

And carpets spread out.

أَفَلا يَنظُرونَ إِلَى الإِبِلِ كَيفَ خُلِقَت

Don’t they look at the camels, and how they were created?

وَإِلَى السَّماءِ كَيفَ رُفِعَت

And the sky, how it is raised?

وَإِلَى الجِبالِ كَيفَ نُصِبَت

And the mountains, how they are anchored?

وَإِلَى الأَرضِ كَيفَ سُطِحَت

And the earth, how it is spread out?

فَذَكِّر إِنَّما أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ

So remind, for you are simply a reminder.

لَستَ عَلَيهِم بِمُصَيطِرٍ

You are not a controller over them.

إِلّا مَن تَوَلّىٰ وَكَفَرَ

Yet whoever turns away and disbelieves.

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ العَذابَ الأَكبَرَ

God will punish him with the greatest punishment.

إِنَّ إِلَينا إِيابَهُم

To Us is their return.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَينا حِسابَهُم

Then, upon Us is their judgment.
