قالَ يا إِبليسُ ما لَكَ أَلّا تَكونَ مَعَ السّاجِدينَ

He asked, “O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating with those who prostrated?”

قالَ لَم أَكُن لِأَسجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقتَهُ مِن صَلصالٍ مِن حَمَإٍ مَسنونٍ

He replied, “I will not prostrate to a human You created from clay, from molded mud.”

قالَ فَاخرُج مِنها فَإِنَّكَ رَجيمٌ

He said, “Depart from here, for you are a banished outcast.

وَإِنَّ عَلَيكَ اللَّعنَةَ إِلىٰ يَومِ الدّينِ

And the curse will be upon you until Judgment Day.”

قالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرني إِلىٰ يَومِ يُبعَثونَ

He pleaded, “My Lord, delay me until the Day they’re resurrected.”

إِلىٰ يَومِ الوَقتِ المَعلومِ

Until the appointed day and time.”

قالَ رَبِّ بِما أَغوَيتَني لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُم فِي الأَرضِ وَلَأُغوِيَنَّهُم أَجمَعينَ

“Lord,” he declared, “since you have lured me away, I will glamorize for them on earth, and I will lure them all away.”

إِلّا عِبادَكَ مِنهُمُ المُخلَصينَ

Except for Your chosen servants among them.”

قالَ هـٰذا صِراطٌ عَلَيَّ مُستَقيمٌ

He replied, “This is a straight path to Me.

إِنَّ عِبادي لَيسَ لَكَ عَلَيهِم سُلطانٌ إِلّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الغاوينَ

You have no sway over My devotees, except those who follow you of the deviators.
