Ta. Seen. Meem.
These are the verses of the Book that makes things clear.
You may be grieving because they don’t believe.
If We will, We could send down upon them a sign from the heavens, so their necks would bow in submission.
Whenever a new revelation comes to them from the Most Merciful, they turn away in denial.
They denied the truth, but soon, the news of what they mocked will reach them.
Don’t they observe the earth and the myriad of diverse and unique species We produced upon it?
In this are signs, but most of them aren’t believers.
Your Lord is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
When your Lord called Moses: “Go to the oppressive people.
The people of Pharaoh. Won’t they fear and reform?”
He replied, “My Lord, I fear they might reject me.
And my chest tightens, and my speech stutters. Therefore, send Aaron with me.
They hold an accusation against me, and I’m afraid they might kill me.”
“No,” He responded, “Go, both of you, with Our signs. We are with you, listening.
Go to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds.
Release the Children of Israel with us.’”
He responded, “Didn’t we raise you among us as a child, and you stayed among us for years of your life?
And yet, you did what you did, and you were ungrateful.”
“I did it,” he confessed, “when I was misguided.
I fled from you when I feared you. But my Lord gave me wisdom and appointed me as one of the messengers.
Is this the favor of which you remind me—that you’ve enslaved the Children of Israel?”
Pharaoh said, “And who is this ‘Lord of the worlds’?”
He replied, “The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, if you could be certain.”
He then addressed those around him, “Did you hear this?”
He said, “Your Lord and the Lord of your ancient ancestors.”
He said, “Your messenger who was sent to you is delusional.”
He responded, “The Lord of the East and the West and all that’s between, if you would use reason.”
He threatened, “If you take a god other than me, I will surely imprison you.”
He countered, “What if I brought you something convincing?”
He challenged, “Then bring it, if you are truthful.”
So he threw down his staff, and it instantly transformed into a striking serpent.
Then drew out his hand, and lo and behold, it was radiant to the observers.
He said to the chiefs around him, “This man is a proficient magician.
He seeks to expel you from your land with his magic. What do you command?”
They suggested, “Delay him and his brother and send recruiters to the cities.
To summon to you every accomplished magician.”
The magicians were thus gathered at the appointed time on the designated day.
And the people were notified, “Are you going to assemble?
Perhaps we will follow the magicians if they are the victors.”
Upon their arrival, the magicians asked Pharaoh, “Will we be rewarded if we prevail?”
He replied, “Indeed, and you will be counted among those near me.”
Moses then said to them, “Present whatever you’re going to present.”
And they threw their ropes and staffs, proclaiming, “By Pharaoh’s might, it is us who will prevail.”
Then Moses threw his staff, and behold, it started swallowing what they had fabricated.
The sorcerers fell down in prostration.
Declaring, “We have believed in the Lord of the worlds.
The Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
He said, “How dare you believe in Him before I gave you permission! He is your chief who taught you magic. But you will soon know. I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all.”
They said, “No harm, we are returning to our Lord anyway.
We aspire that our Lord will forgive our sins, as we are among the first believers.”
We then revealed to Moses: “Depart with My servants at night, and expect pursuit.”
Pharaoh then dispatched messengers throughout the cities:
“These people are just a small gang.
Yet, they provoked our wrath.
But we are a united and vigilant multitude.”
Thus, We drove them out of gardens and springs.
And from treasured, luxurious homes.
Thus it was, and We passed it to the Children of Israel.
And they pursued them towards the east.
When the two groups sighted each other, Moses’ companions said, “We are certainly being overtaken!”
He replied, “Never! My Lord is with me, He will guide me.”
We then revealed to Moses, “Strike the sea with your staff.” And it parted, and each side was like a towering mountain.
We then drew the others near.
Thus, We rescued Moses and all those with him.
Then We drowned the others.
There is a lesson in this, but most of them aren’t believers.
Certainly, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful.
Relate to them the story of Abraham.
When he asked his father and his people, “What do you worship?”
They replied, “We worship idols, to which we are fervently devoted.”
He asked, “Can they hear you when you pray to them?
Can they benefit you or harm you?”
They responded, “But this is what we found our ancestors doing.”
He then challenged, “Did you ever consider what you worship?
You and your ancient forefathers?
They are enemies to me; but not so the Lord of the Worlds.
He who created me, and it is He who guides me.
He who provides me with food and drink.
And when I fall ill, it’s He who heals me.
He who causes me to die, then revives me.
And He, in whom I aspire, will forgive my sins on Judgment Day.”
“My Lord, grant me wisdom and include me among the righteous.
And grant me a reputation of truthfulness among the later generations.
And grant me a place among the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss.
And forgive my father, for he was of the lost.
And don’t disgrace me on the Day they are resurrected.
The Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit anyone.
Except for those who come to God with a pure heart.”
And Paradise will be brought near to the righteous.
And Hellfire will be unveiled for the deviants.
And it will be asked, “Where are those you used to worship?
Besides God? Can they help you, or help themselves?”
They will be flung into it, they and the deceitful.
And all of the forces of evil.
They will be bickering therein, saying.
“By God, we were in manifest error.
When we equated you with the Lord of the worlds.
It was only the transgressors who misled us.
Now, we have no intercessors.
And no loyal friend.
If only we had another chance, so that we could be believers.”
There is a lesson in this, but most of them aren’t believers.
Your Lord, indeed, is the Almighty, the Most Merciful.
The people of Noah denied the messengers.
When their brother Noah said to them, “Will you not embrace righteousness?
I am a trustworthy messenger to you.
So fear God, and obey me.
I ask no compensation from you; my recompense is only from the Lord of the worlds.
So Fear God, and obey me.”
They responded, “Should we believe in you, when the lowest class follows you?”
He replied, “I have no knowledge of what they’ve been doing.
Their account is only with my Lord, if you could perceive.
And I am not going to drive away the believers.
I am only a clear warner.”
They warned, “Noah, if you don’t stop, you will be stoned.”
He pleaded, “My Lord, my people have rejected me.
Judge decisively between me and them, and rescue me and the believers with me.”
So We saved him and those with him in the laden Ark.
Then, We drowned the others.
There is a lesson in this, but most of them aren’t believers.
Indeed your Lord—He is the Almighty, the Merciful.
Aad denied the messengers.
When their brother Hud implored them, “Won’t you exercise restraint?
I am a trustworthy messenger to you.
So, revere God, and obey me.
I ask no reward from you; my recompense is only from the Lord of the worlds.
You erect monuments on every hill in vanity.
And you build strongholds, as if you will live forever.
And when you strike, you strike mercilessly.
So fear God, and obey me.
Fear Him who supplied you with what you know.
He provided you with livestock and offspring.
And gardens, and springs.
I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.”
They responded, “It makes no difference to us whether you lecture us or not.
This is nothing but the traditions of the ancients.
And we are not to be punished.”
They disbelieved him, and so We destroyed them. There is a lesson in this, but most of them aren’t believers.
Your Lord is the Exalted in Might, the Most Merciful.
Thamud denied the messengers.
When their brother Saleh said to them, “Will you not behave righteously?
I am a reliable messenger to you.
So, fear God and obey me.
I ask for no reward from you; my recompense is only from the Lord of the worlds.
Won’t you be secure in this?
In gardens and springs?
In fields and palm trees with tender and delicate shoots?
In skillfully carved homes within the mountains?
So Fear God, and obey me.
And don’t obey the command of the extravagant.
Those who spread corruption in the land and don’t reform.”
They replied, “You are under an enchantment.
You are just a human like us; so bring a sign, if you are truthful.”
He said, “This is a she-camel. She has her turn of drinking, and you have yours—each on a known day.
And don’t harm her, lest you be overtaken by the punishment of a terrible day.”
However, they hamstrung her, and then became regretful.
So, the punishment seized them. There is a lesson in this, but most of them aren’t believers.
Your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful.
The people of Lot denied the messengers.
When their brother Lot exhorted them, “Won’t you behave righteously?
I am a credible messenger to you.
So fear God, and obey me.
I ask no reward from you; my reward is only from the Lord of the realms.
Do you approach the males of the world?
And abandon the wives that your Lord created for you? But you are a transgressing people.”
They replied, “If you don’t stop, O Lot, you will be among those expelled.”
He responded, “I am of those who disapprove of your conduct.”
“My Lord, save me and my family from their actions.”
And so, We rescued him and his entire family.
Except an elderly woman among those who stayed behind.
Then We destroyed the others.
And We rained down on them a downpour. What an awful rain for the forewarned!

When Shuaib pleaded with them, “Will you not embrace righteousness?
I am a trustworthy messenger to you.
So fear God, obey me.
I ask no payment from you; my payment is only from the Lord of the cosmos.
Give full measure and don’t shortchange.
And weigh with an even scale.
And don’t defraud people of their rights or commit abuse on earth.
And fear the One who created you and the earlier generations.”
They responded, “You are surely among the bewitched.
You are but a man like us, and we think you are a liar.
Bring down upon us chunks of the sky, if you are truthful.”
He responded, “My Lord is more aware of your actions.”
They disbelieved him, so the punishment of the Day of the Shadow befell them: a day of immense suffering.
In that is a sign, yet most of them refuse to believe.
Your Lord is the Almighty, the Merciful.
This is a revelation from the Lord of the universes.
The Trustworthy Spirit came down with it.
Upon your heart, so you may be among the warners.
In clear Arabic language.
And it was foretold in the scriptures of old.
Is it not a sign for them that the scholars among the Children of Israel recognize it?
Even if We had revealed it to a foreigner.
And he had recited it to them, they still wouldn’t have believed it.
Thus, We caused it to enter the hearts of the criminals.
They won’t believe in it until they see the severe torment.
It will come upon them unexpectedly, while they are unaware.
Then, they will exclaim, “Could we be given more time?”
Are they trying to expedite Our punishment?
Consider this: even if We were to grant them enjoyment for years.
Then, what they were promised will come upon them.
All their enjoyed comforts won’t avail them.
Never did We destroy a town, but it had its warners.
As a reminder, for We were never unjust.
It is not revealed by the devils.
It is neither in their interest nor within their power.
They are barred from hearing.
So don’t call upon any other god with God, lest you be among the tormented.
And warn your close kin.
And be lenient with those who followed you amongst the believers.
If they disobey you, say, “I am innocent of what you do.”
And rely on the Almighty, the Most Merciful.
Who sees you when you stand.
And your movement among those who bow down.
He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Should I inform you upon whom the devils descend?
They descend upon every sinful liar.
They lend an ear, but most of them are liars.
As for the poets, the deviators follow them.
Don’t you see how they ramble in every style?
And that they say what they don’t do?
Except for those who believe, perform good deeds, remember God frequently, and defend themselves after being wronged. Those who do wrong will soon learn how they will be overturned.
