إِنَّهُ مِن عِبادِنَا المُؤمِنينَ

He was one of Our faithful servants.

ثُمَّ أَغرَقنَا الآخَرينَ

Then We drowned the others.

وَإِنَّ مِن شيعَتِهِ لَإِبراهيمَ

And among his descendants was Abraham.

إِذ جاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلبٍ سَليمٍ

When he approached his Lord with a sound heart.

إِذ قالَ لِأَبيهِ وَقَومِهِ ماذا تَعبُدونَ

He asked his father and his people, “What do you worship?

فَما ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ العالَمينَ

What’s your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds?”

فَنَظَرَ نَظرَةً فِي النُّجومِ

He then gazed at the stars.

فَقالَ إِنّي سَقيمٌ

And he said, “I feel unwell.”

فَتَوَلَّوا عَنهُ مُدبِرينَ

So they turned away from him, retreating.

فَراغَ إِلىٰ آلِهَتِهِم فَقالَ أَلا تَأكُلونَ

He turned towards their gods and said, “Do you not eat?”
