إِذ جاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلبٍ سَليمٍ

When he approached his Lord with a sound heart.

إِذ قالَ لِأَبيهِ وَقَومِهِ ماذا تَعبُدونَ

He asked his father and his people, “What do you worship?

أَئِفكًا آلِهَةً دونَ اللَّهِ تُريدونَ

Do you prefer false idols over God?

فَما ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ العالَمينَ

What’s your opinion of the Lord of the Worlds?”

فَنَظَرَ نَظرَةً فِي النُّجومِ

He then gazed at the stars.

فَتَوَلَّوا عَنهُ مُدبِرينَ

So they turned away from him, retreating.

فَراغَ إِلىٰ آلِهَتِهِم فَقالَ أَلا تَأكُلونَ

He turned towards their gods and said, “Do you not eat?”

ما لَكُم لا تَنطِقونَ

What is with you that you don’t speak?”

فَراغَ عَلَيهِم ضَربًا بِاليَمينِ

He then launched a strike against them with his right hand.

فَأَقبَلوا إِلَيهِ يَزِفّونَ

They approached him, rushing toward him.
