فَقالَ إِنّي سَقيمٌ

And he said, “I feel unwell.”

فَتَوَلَّوا عَنهُ مُدبِرينَ

So they turned away from him, retreating.

فَراغَ إِلىٰ آلِهَتِهِم فَقالَ أَلا تَأكُلونَ

He turned towards their gods and said, “Do you not eat?”

ما لَكُم لا تَنطِقونَ

What is with you that you don’t speak?”

فَراغَ عَلَيهِم ضَربًا بِاليَمينِ

He then launched a strike against them with his right hand.

قالَ أَتَعبُدونَ ما تَنحِتونَ

He countered, “Do you worship what you carve?

وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُم وَما تَعمَلونَ

While it is God who created you and all that you make?”

قالُوا ابنوا لَهُ بُنيانًا فَأَلقوهُ فِي الجَحيمِ

They responded, “Build a furnace for him, and throw him into the flames.”

فَأَرادوا بِهِ كَيدًا فَجَعَلناهُمُ الأَسفَلينَ

So they hatched a scheme against him, but We made them the inferiors.

وَقالَ إِنّي ذاهِبٌ إِلىٰ رَبّي سَيَهدينِ

He said, “I will be departing to my Lord; He will guide me.”
