بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ حم

Ha. Meem.

تَنزيلُ الكِتابِ مِنَ اللَّهِ العَزيزِ الحَكيمِ

This Book is a revelation from God, the Almighty, the All-Wise.

إِنَّ فِي السَّماواتِ وَالأَرضِ لَآياتٍ لِلمُؤمِنينَ

In the heavens and the earth are signs for the believers.

وَفي خَلقِكُم وَما يَبُثُّ مِن دابَّةٍ آياتٌ لِقَومٍ يوقِنونَ

And in your creation, and in the various kinds of creatures He scattered, are signs for people who are sure.

وَاختِلافِ اللَّيلِ وَالنَّهارِ وَما أَنزَلَ اللَّهُ مِنَ السَّماءِ مِن رِزقٍ فَأَحيا بِهِ الأَرضَ بَعدَ مَوتِها وَتَصريفِ الرِّياحِ آياتٌ لِقَومٍ يَعقِلونَ

And in the alternation of night and day, in the sustenance that God sends down from the sky, reviving the earth after its death, and in His control of the winds, there are signs for people who reason.

تِلكَ آياتُ اللَّهِ نَتلوها عَلَيكَ بِالحَقِّ ۖ فَبِأَيِّ حَديثٍ بَعدَ اللَّهِ وَآياتِهِ يُؤمِنونَ

These are God’s verses which We convey to you in truth. So, in what message, after God and His verses, will they believe?

وَيلٌ لِكُلِّ أَفّاكٍ أَثيمٍ

Woe to every liar, sinful fabricator.

يَسمَعُ آياتِ اللَّهِ تُتلىٰ عَلَيهِ ثُمَّ يُصِرُّ مُستَكبِرًا كَأَن لَم يَسمَعها ۖ فَبَشِّرهُ بِعَذابٍ أَليمٍ

Who hears God’s verses recited to him, persists in arrogance, as if he didn’t hear them. Inform him of a painful punishment.

وَإِذا عَلِمَ مِن آياتِنا شَيئًا اتَّخَذَها هُزُوًا ۚ أُولـٰئِكَ لَهُم عَذابٌ مُهينٌ

When he becomes aware of some of Our verses, he mocks them. For them, there is a humiliating punishment.

مِن وَرائِهِم جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَلا يُغني عَنهُم ما كَسَبوا شَيئًا وَلا مَا اتَّخَذوا مِن دونِ اللَّهِ أَولِياءَ ۖ وَلَهُم عَذابٌ عَظيمٌ

Ahead of them lies Hell. Neither their wealth nor their allies besides God will avail them anything. For them, there is a tremendous punishment.

هـٰذا هُدًى ۖ وَالَّذينَ كَفَروا بِآياتِ رَبِّهِم لَهُم عَذابٌ مِن رِجزٍ أَليمٌ

This is guidance. Those who reject their Lord’s signs will have a severe punishment of a humiliating nature.

اللَّهُ الَّذي سَخَّرَ لَكُمُ البَحرَ لِتَجرِيَ الفُلكُ فيهِ بِأَمرِهِ وَلِتَبتَغوا مِن فَضلِهِ وَلَعَلَّكُم تَشكُرونَ

It is God who made the sea submissive to you, so that ships may traverse it by His decree, and you may seek His bounty, and perhaps you may express gratitude.

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُم ما فِي السَّماواتِ وَما فِي الأَرضِ جَميعًا مِنهُ ۚ إِنَّ في ذٰلِكَ لَآياتٍ لِقَومٍ يَتَفَكَّرونَ

He made everything in the heavens and on earth subservient to you—all is from Him. In this, there are signs for those who reflect.

قُل لِلَّذينَ آمَنوا يَغفِروا لِلَّذينَ لا يَرجونَ أَيّامَ اللَّهِ لِيَجزِيَ قَومًا بِما كانوا يَكسِبونَ

Tell those who believe to forgive those who don’t anticipate the days of God, for He repays people according to their deeds.

مَن عَمِلَ صالِحًا فَلِنَفسِهِ ۖ وَمَن أَساءَ فَعَلَيها ۖ ثُمَّ إِلىٰ رَبِّكُم تُرجَعونَ

Whoever works righteousness, it is for the good of his own soul; and whoever does evil, it is upon it. Then to your Lord you will be returned.

وَلَقَد آتَينا بَني إِسرائيلَ الكِتابَ وَالحُكمَ وَالنُّبُوَّةَ وَرَزَقناهُم مِنَ الطَّيِّباتِ وَفَضَّلناهُم عَلَى العالَمينَ

We gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood; and We provided them with good things, and We favored them above all other nations.

وَآتَيناهُم بَيِّناتٍ مِنَ الأَمرِ ۖ فَمَا اختَلَفوا إِلّا مِن بَعدِ ما جاءَهُمُ العِلمُ بَغيًا بَينَهُم ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَقضي بَينَهُم يَومَ القِيامَةِ فيما كانوا فيهِ يَختَلِفونَ

We provided them with clear proofs of the matter. They only began to dispute after knowledge came to them—out of mutual jealousy. Your Lord will judge between them on Resurrection Day regarding their disputes.

ثُمَّ جَعَلناكَ عَلىٰ شَريعَةٍ مِنَ الأَمرِ فَاتَّبِعها وَلا تَتَّبِع أَهواءَ الَّذينَ لا يَعلَمونَ

Then We set you on the path of the ordinance, so follow it, and don’t follow the whims of those who don’t know.

إِنَّهُم لَن يُغنوا عَنكَ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيئًا ۚ وَإِنَّ الظّالِمينَ بَعضُهُم أَولِياءُ بَعضٍ ۖ وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّ المُتَّقينَ

They won’t be able to protect you from God in anything. The wrongdoers are allies of each other, but God is the Ally of the righteous.

هـٰذا بَصائِرُ لِلنّاسِ وَهُدًى وَرَحمَةٌ لِقَومٍ يوقِنونَ

These are insights for humankind, guidance, and mercy for people who have unwavering faith.

أَم حَسِبَ الَّذينَ اجتَرَحُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ أَن نَجعَلَهُم كَالَّذينَ آمَنوا وَعَمِلُوا الصّالِحاتِ سَواءً مَحياهُم وَمَماتُهُم ۚ ساءَ ما يَحكُمونَ

Do those who commit evil deeds think that We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds, both in their life and after their death? How ill they judge!

وَخَلَقَ اللَّهُ السَّماواتِ وَالأَرضَ بِالحَقِّ وَلِتُجزىٰ كُلُّ نَفسٍ بِما كَسَبَت وَهُم لا يُظلَمونَ

God created the heavens and the earth with truth. Each soul will be repaid for what it has earned, and they won’t be wronged.

أَفَرَأَيتَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ إِلـٰهَهُ هَواهُ وَأَضَلَّهُ اللَّهُ عَلىٰ عِلمٍ وَخَتَمَ عَلىٰ سَمعِهِ وَقَلبِهِ وَجَعَلَ عَلىٰ بَصَرِهِ غِشاوَةً فَمَن يَهديهِ مِن بَعدِ اللَّهِ ۚ أَفَلا تَذَكَّرونَ

Have you seen him who takes his own desires as his god? God, knowingly, allows him to stray, seals his hearing and heart, and places a covering over his sight. Who, then, can guide him after God? Won’t you then reflect?

وَقالوا ما هِيَ إِلّا حَياتُنَا الدُّنيا نَموتُ وَنَحيا وَما يُهلِكُنا إِلَّا الدَّهرُ ۚ وَما لَهُم بِذٰلِكَ مِن عِلمٍ ۖ إِن هُم إِلّا يَظُنّونَ

They assert, “There is nothing but our worldly life; we live and we die, and time alone destroys us.” But they have no knowledge of this; they are only guessing.

وَإِذا تُتلىٰ عَلَيهِم آياتُنا بَيِّناتٍ ما كانَ حُجَّتَهُم إِلّا أَن قالُوا ائتوا بِآبائِنا إِن كُنتُم صادِقينَ

When Our clear verses are presented to them, their only argument is, “Bring our ancestors back, if you are truthful.”

قُلِ اللَّهُ يُحييكُم ثُمَّ يُميتُكُم ثُمَّ يَجمَعُكُم إِلىٰ يَومِ القِيامَةِ لا رَيبَ فيهِ وَلـٰكِنَّ أَكثَرَ النّاسِ لا يَعلَمونَ

Say, “God gives you life, then makes you die, then gathers you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. But most people don’t know.”

وَلِلَّهِ مُلكُ السَّماواتِ وَالأَرضِ ۚ وَيَومَ تَقومُ السّاعَةُ يَومَئِذٍ يَخسَرُ المُبطِلونَ

To God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. On the Day when the Hour is established, on that day, those who falsify will lose.

وَتَرىٰ كُلَّ أُمَّةٍ جاثِيَةً ۚ كُلُّ أُمَّةٍ تُدعىٰ إِلىٰ كِتابِهَا اليَومَ تُجزَونَ ما كُنتُم تَعمَلونَ

You will see every community kneeling, every community will be called to its record. “Today, you are being recompensed for what you used to do.

هـٰذا كِتابُنا يَنطِقُ عَلَيكُم بِالحَقِّ ۚ إِنّا كُنّا نَستَنسِخُ ما كُنتُم تَعمَلونَ

This is our record which speaks against you with truth. We were recording what you used to do.”

فَأَمَّا الَّذينَ آمَنوا وَعَمِلُوا الصّالِحاتِ فَيُدخِلُهُم رَبُّهُم في رَحمَتِهِ ۚ ذٰلِكَ هُوَ الفَوزُ المُبينُ

Then, as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them into His Mercy. That is the clear triumph.

وَأَمَّا الَّذينَ كَفَروا أَفَلَم تَكُن آياتي تُتلىٰ عَلَيكُم فَاستَكبَرتُم وَكُنتُم قَومًا مُجرِمينَ

As for those who disbelieved: “Weren’t My verses recited to you, but you were arrogant and were guilty people?”

وَإِذا قيلَ إِنَّ وَعدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ وَالسّاعَةُ لا رَيبَ فيها قُلتُم ما نَدري مَا السّاعَةُ إِن نَظُنُّ إِلّا ظَنًّا وَما نَحنُ بِمُستَيقِنينَ

When it was said, “God’s promise is true, and there is no doubt about the Hour,” you said, “We don’t know what the Hour is. We conceive it as nothing more than speculation, and we aren’t sure.”

وَبَدا لَهُم سَيِّئَاتُ ما عَمِلوا وَحاقَ بِهِم ما كانوا بِهِ يَستَهزِئونَ

The evils of what they earned will appear to them, and what they used to mock will surround them.

وَقيلَ اليَومَ نَنساكُم كَما نَسيتُم لِقاءَ يَومِكُم هـٰذا وَمَأواكُمُ النّارُ وَما لَكُم مِن ناصِرينَ

And it will be said, “Today, We will forget you, as you forgot the meeting of this Day. And your dwelling will be the Fire, and you will have no helpers.

ذٰلِكُم بِأَنَّكُمُ اتَّخَذتُم آياتِ اللَّهِ هُزُوًا وَغَرَّتكُمُ الحَياةُ الدُّنيا ۚ فَاليَومَ لا يُخرَجونَ مِنها وَلا هُم يُستَعتَبونَ

That is because you took God’s verses lightly and the worldly life deceived you.” So today, they won’t be removed from it, nor will they be given the opportunity to make amends.

فَلِلَّهِ الحَمدُ رَبِّ السَّماواتِ وَرَبِّ الأَرضِ رَبِّ العالَمينَ

So, to God be all praise, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the worlds.

وَلَهُ الكِبرِياءُ فِي السَّماواتِ وَالأَرضِ ۖ وَهُوَ العَزيزُ الحَكيمُ

And His is the greatness in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Mighty, the All-Wise.
