بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمـٰنِ الرَّحيمِ هَل أَتىٰ عَلَى الإِنسانِ حينٌ مِنَ الدَّهرِ لَم يَكُن شَيئًا مَذكورًا

Was there not a time in history when man was nothing to be mentioned?

إِنّا خَلَقنَا الإِنسانَ مِن نُطفَةٍ أَمشاجٍ نَبتَليهِ فَجَعَلناهُ سَميعًا بَصيرًا

We created man from a drop of mingled fluid, to test him, and We endowed him with hearing and sight.

إِنّا هَدَيناهُ السَّبيلَ إِمّا شاكِرًا وَإِمّا كَفورًا

We guided him on the path, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.

إِنّا أَعتَدنا لِلكافِرينَ سَلاسِلَ وَأَغلالًا وَسَعيرًا

For the unbelievers, We prepared chains, shackles, and a blazing inferno.

إِنَّ الأَبرارَ يَشرَبونَ مِن كَأسٍ كانَ مِزاجُها كافورًا

The righteous will drink from a cup whose mixture is camphor.

عَينًا يَشرَبُ بِها عِبادُ اللَّهِ يُفَجِّرونَها تَفجيرًا

A spring from which the servants of God will drink, causing it to gush abundantly.

يوفونَ بِالنَّذرِ وَيَخافونَ يَومًا كانَ شَرُّهُ مُستَطيرًا

They fulfill their vows and dread a Day whose evil would be widespread.

وَيُطعِمونَ الطَّعامَ عَلىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسكينًا وَيَتيمًا وَأَسيرًا

They feed, for the love of Him, the destitute, the orphan, and the captive.

إِنَّما نُطعِمُكُم لِوَجهِ اللَّهِ لا نُريدُ مِنكُم جَزاءً وَلا شُكورًا

“We feed you only for the sake of God; we desire neither compensation nor thanks from you.

إِنّا نَخافُ مِن رَبِّنا يَومًا عَبوسًا قَمطَريرًا

We fear from our Lord a frowning, grim Day.”

فَوَقاهُمُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ ذٰلِكَ اليَومِ وَلَقّاهُم نَضرَةً وَسُرورًا

So, God will protect them from the woes of that Day and grant them radiance and happiness.

وَجَزاهُم بِما صَبَروا جَنَّةً وَحَريرًا

And He will reward them, for being patient, with a garden and silk.

مُتَّكِئينَ فيها عَلَى الأَرائِكِ ۖ لا يَرَونَ فيها شَمسًا وَلا زَمهَريرًا

Reclining therein on adorned couches, they will see there neither the excessive heat of the sun, nor severe cold.

وَدانِيَةً عَلَيهِم ظِلالُها وَذُلِّلَت قُطوفُها تَذليلًا

Its shade hovering over them, with its fruit clusters hanging low.

وَيُطافُ عَلَيهِم بِآنِيَةٍ مِن فِضَّةٍ وَأَكوابٍ كانَت قَواريرا

They will be served from vessels of silver and crystal-clear cups.

قَواريرَ مِن فِضَّةٍ قَدَّروها تَقديرًا

Cups of silver, they measure them precisely.

وَيُسقَونَ فيها كَأسًا كانَ مِزاجُها زَنجَبيلًا

They will be given to drink a drink mixed with ginger.

عَينًا فيها تُسَمّىٰ سَلسَبيلًا

From a spring therein named Salsabil.

وَيَطوفُ عَلَيهِم وِلدانٌ مُخَلَّدونَ إِذا رَأَيتَهُم حَسِبتَهُم لُؤلُؤًا مَنثورًا

And there will circulate among them eternalized youths, when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls.

وَإِذا رَأَيتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيتَ نَعيمًا وَمُلكًا كَبيرًا

When you look around, you will see delight and a vast kingdom.

عالِيَهُم ثِيابُ سُندُسٍ خُضرٌ وَإِستَبرَقٌ ۖ وَحُلّوا أَساوِرَ مِن فِضَّةٍ وَسَقاهُم رَبُّهُم شَرابًا طَهورًا

Upon them will be garments of fine, green silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure drink.

إِنَّ هـٰذا كانَ لَكُم جَزاءً وَكانَ سَعيُكُم مَشكورًا

“This is your reward. And your effort has been appreciated.”

إِنّا نَحنُ نَزَّلنا عَلَيكَ القُرآنَ تَنزيلًا

It is We who revealed the Quran to you, gradually.

فَاصبِر لِحُكمِ رَبِّكَ وَلا تُطِع مِنهُم آثِمًا أَو كَفورًا

So be patient for your Lord’s judgment, and obey neither the sinner nor the ungrateful among them.

وَاذكُرِ اسمَ رَبِّكَ بُكرَةً وَأَصيلًا

And remember the name of your Lord morning and evening.

وَمِنَ اللَّيلِ فَاسجُد لَهُ وَسَبِّحهُ لَيلًا طَويلًا

And during part of the night, prostrate yourself to Him, and glorify Him long into the night.

إِنَّ هـٰؤُلاءِ يُحِبّونَ العاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرونَ وَراءَهُم يَومًا ثَقيلًا

These people love the fleeting life, and they leave behind a heavy day.

نَحنُ خَلَقناهُم وَشَدَدنا أَسرَهُم ۖ وَإِذا شِئنا بَدَّلنا أَمثالَهُم تَبديلًا

We created them and strengthened their frames, and when We will, We will replace them with others like them.

إِنَّ هـٰذِهِ تَذكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبيلًا

This is a reminder. So, whoever wills, let him take a way towards his Lord.

وَما تَشاءونَ إِلّا أَن يَشاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كانَ عَليمًا حَكيمًا

But you cannot will, unless God wills. God is ever Knowing and Wise.

يُدخِلُ مَن يَشاءُ في رَحمَتِهِ ۚ وَالظّالِمينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُم عَذابًا أَليمًا

He admits into His mercy whom He wills. But for the wrongdoers, He prepared a severe punishment.
